Student Health Plan Opt Out Deadline:

September Start Students:
Opt-Out Start Date: September 1st, 2023 at 9am
Opt-Out Deadline: September 18th, 2023 at 4pm

January Start Students
Opt-Out Start Date: January 1st, 2024 at 9am
Opt-Out Deadline: January 19th, 2024 at 4pm

*Please note that if you opt out of the student health plan you will not have access to the Student Assistance Program, We Connect (Mental Health); however, you will still have access to Nipissing University’s Counselling Services Department!

Family Opt In:

The deadline for family opt in is September 21

May I enroll my dependents?
All students may obtain coverage for their spouse and children by enrolling them prior to September 18th, 2023 at 4pm for the fall semester (January 19th, 2024 at 4pm for winter start students) by paying the appropriate fee.
You may apply for dependent coverage on-line using VISA or Mastercard by going to wespeakstudent.com prior to the deadline dates noted above.
No applications will be accepted after the deadline dates noted above. 
“SPOUSE” means the legal spouse of the Insured Student, residing in Canada, provided there is no legal separation in effect, or an individual of the same sex or opposite sex who has been residing with the Insured Student for a period of at least one year and who has been designated as the spouse of the Insured Student in Nipissing University and Nipissing University Student Union’s records for insurance purposes, and are covered under the provincial health insurance plan.
“Dependent Child or Children” means any natural child, step child or legally adopted child of the Insured Student, who is 20 years of age o and under, unmarried and receives full support and maintenance from the Insured Student, or 21 years of age but less than 25 years of age, unmarried and receives full support and maintenance from the Insured Student for the reason of full-time attendance at an accredited institute, college or university in Canada or receives full support and maintenance from the Insured Student by reason of mental or physical infirmity, is covered under the provincial health insurance plan and is a resident of Canada.

How To Opt-Out

  1. Go to www.wespeakstudent.com
  2. Click “Nipissing University”
  3. Select the “Opt Out Tile”
  4. Provide proof of sufficient alternative coverage, direct deposit information, Nipissing student number and Nipissing email address. If you opt-out, you will NOT be able to opt back in. You will receive your refund before the end of the semester. Remember: The health plan is annual, so if you opted out last year, you will have to do so again sometime before the deadline.

How To File A Claim

Your drug and extended health care claims are paid by ClaimSecure.

Pay Direct (drug claims): The Pharmacy can submit your claim electronically for you, limiting your out-of-pocket expense. You will need to give the pharmacy the following :

  1. Your Group Number is 514926
  2. Provider: Claim Secure
  3. Certificate # is your Student ID #: V 0 0 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (V zero zero and then your student number without the letter. Ex: 0392652)

By Mail: Fill out the appropriate claim form (all claim forms can be downloaded from wespeakstudent.com), attach your original receipts and mail directly to ClaimSecure at:

Online Claims Submission:
1. Go to wespeakstudent.com
2. Select your school, and click on the “eProfile” tile
3. Click “register now”
(You must have an active status and valid e-mail address to register)
4. You will receive an email confirmation from “eProfile System” containing your login information
– Make sure to log into your account within 15 days, otherwise, your registration information will expire.
5. You are finished

Note: Drug, Dental, Extended Health Claims can be submitted online or by mail.

Hospital & physician visits, blood tests, emergency room visits, x-rays and ultrasounds, walk-in clinic, and diagnostic imaging can only be submitted by mail.
